SCOTT JOHNSON

Composer, Steelpan, Drum Set, Marimba - Callaloo Co-Founder

 

Scott Johnson, with a B.A. degree in music theory/composition from Western Illinois University, is the composer/arranger of all Callaloo’s original compositions. He has performed on both steelpans and drum set at clubs such as Metro, Double Door, and Martyr’s, festivals such as Taste of Chicago, conventions at McCormick Place, lounges such as Windsor’s Lounge at the Palmer House Hilton, and innumerable private parties. Scott has also recorded drum set, steel pan, marimba, and Latin percussion for

many other local musicians around the Chicagoland area. In addition to performing, Scott also owns Upbeat Music, a music lesson studio located in Chicago’s Chinatown. You can go to upbeatmusicchicago.com to register for lessons on any instrument in the band.

As a teacher, Scott has spread his passion for music and percussion through private lessons, group classes, as an ensemble director, as well as master classes and clinics for the past 20 years and recently just finished a series of clinics in Malaysia where he introduced the steelpan.
